Buying a Warm Mist Humidifier

A warm mist humidifier can be just what you need to make your home air all the sweeter. For those who don’t know, a warm mist humidifier or any humidifier in fact is a machine design to add water or moisture to the air. This is to prevent the negative effects of dry air, which include increased fatigue and potential damage to wooden objects. A warm mist humidifier is just one of the many methods a humidifier can do its vital work.

Other kinds of humidifiers include the most basic of humidifiers, the evaporative or wick humidifier. They simple disperse water through the air through evaporation. Their simple design also allows them to be self regulating as they function through relative humidity. Another kind is the Ultrasonic humidifier, which uses a metal diaphragm to generate a vibration at a specific frequency to create fog out of the water in the reservoir. There is even a distant cousin to the warm mist humidifier – the cool mist humidifier, which are noisier but generally do the same job.

A warm mist humidifier does its job by boiling the water which actually creates a sort of distilled steam that increases the humidity in the air. Reviews have pointed out some of the inherent flaws or dangers in the design, one of which is the increased maintenance or electricity cost, as it needs considerably more energy to heat the water when compared to other humidifier types. Another concern is one of safety, especially if the machine is going to be used around children.

Of course, there are marked benefits to the boil. The water is sterilized, which makes the steam sterilized making it far safer than its cousin and other humidifying methods. Bacteria or harmful minerals in the water could be dispersed under other humidifiers, but not through the warm mist humidifier.

Medication can also be applied to the water, making a sort of medicated steam that can alleviate a cold or other concerns. Generally, they run more silently than their brethren due to the smaller amount of moving parts.

These are only the basics of the warm mist humidifier. If you can, try one out at a friend’s house to see if it’s the humidifier for you. Don’t be in a hurry and don’t buy the first warm mist humidifier around, as you can end up taking home one that doesn’t suit your needs. Take it slow and pick carefully – pick right and it will last you for years to come.
