Humidify Your Office with a Portable Humidifier
Humidity, the amount of moisture in the air, plays an important role in how comfortable you are in your office. How comfortable you are in your workspace likewise affects the quality of your work and your drive to do your tasks. When the place you work in has a very dry atmosphere, it can make you prone to respiratory ailments, from the simple cough and colds to the more complex asthma. The respiratory system needs just the right amount of moisture to combat molds and bacteria, and a dry atmosphere has low humidity. When you start to have dry skin, chapped lips, itchy eyes and sore throat just by staying in your office, it means it is time you set up a portable humidifier.
A portable humidifier is a mechanical device that increases the humidity level in a particular area. A portable humidifier is also called a single-room or tabletop humidifier because it is used to humidify small spaces and can be moved around easily. A console unit, which is a movable freestanding cabinet, and an in-duct or central humidifier, which is hooked up to a house’s heating system have greater water-output capacities compared to a portable humidifier. These whole-house humidifiers offer less control over each room in the house but usually require lower maintenance. A portable humidifier has to be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold spores and bacteria in the water. When a humidifier’s reservoir has dirty, stagnant water, the molds and bacteria will also be included in the humidification process.
There are several types of portable humidifiers: steam or vaporizer, impeller, ultrasonic and evaporative wick.
The steam humidifier is one of the most expensive to operate because it eats up a lot of energy to keep the water boiling. However, with a steam humidifier, you do not have to worry about molds and bacteria because they are killed as the water is boiled. This vaporizer portable humidifier can also be used as a breathing aid when a medical inhalant is added to the water. Since a steam humidifier is constantly hot, it is not advisable for rooms with children.
The warm air or cold air impeller and the ultrasonic require less energy but more cleaning. Such humidifiers should be maintained properly to keep the humidifier water from stagnating. The evaporative wick humidifier, which should also be cleaned regularly, is a self-regulating portable humidifier that adjusts according to the humidity level in the room.
There are many humidifier models available. Choose a portable humidifier that matches your preferences, and make your office more comfortable to work in.
