Portable humidifiers can be a boon to anyone who can’t afford a large humidifier or one who moves around a lot. Knowing what makes a good humidifier can essentially help a buyer save a lot of time, money and effort.
A cold weather can lead to a dry home. A dry home can lead to itchy and dry skin, irritated sinuses and scratchy throats. Most often, this issue is neglected, however, this can cause serious damage to your health if you do not do something about it. To be able to counteract to the effect of a dry home syndrome, homeowners should bear in my mind that the only way to provide moisture to the air inside the home is to install a central humidifier.
If you are the germ-phobe type of person, central humidifier is not your thing. Think of a swamp environment, this is basically the best way to describe the condition of your furnace with an attached humidifier. It is a breeding ground for molds, bacteria and molds. If your home has some leaky ducts running in an unconditioned area, like the attic, the warm and humidified air will escape and goes directly to the cold-roof, thus, causing more moisture damage or even rot. If you want to preserve the comfortable humidity level of your home especially during winter days, here are some holistic approach in which you can apply to your own.
First is that, you have to reduce the leaking of the air. Cutting out the rate of the air filtration of your home may lessen the amount of moisture. Having to reduce these leaks can reduce some drafts and saves a lot of energy.
Second, you can consider buying an ERV or energy-recovery ventilator. This device is designed to balance the ventilation inside your home. A conventional exhaust fan get through their system bu pulling the air through the open crack and the open leaks of the home, which is not very convenient for indoor air. A balanced ventilator just like the ERV can bring fresh air inside your home through dedicated ducts. In addition, the heat recovery ventilator gently recovers a portion of heat that is exhausted and pulls it back inside your home. This is a very good energy saving feature. The ERV on the other hand recovers humidity and heat.
Purchasing a central humidifier is also good, however, it takes some careful consideration before deciding to get one. Central humidifiers can help keep the moisture inside your home. That is a very good thing because you are able to breathe fresh. On the flip side however, central humidifiers make use of water to be able to release a cool mist. Which means inside the humidifier, there is a big risk of bacterial growth and mold growth when it is not very well taken cared of. But still, generally, central humidifiers are a big help especially during the winter season.
