A Tip for Your Trip: Enjoy Long Rides with a Car Humidifier
Whole-house, single-room and car humidifiers—mechanical devices that increase atmospheric moisture—are often used in homes, offices and vehicles for good reasons. Humidity, the amount of water vapor in the air, varies from place to place and different humidity levels have different effects. Too much humidity in closed or covered spaces makes the air damp, and dampness can affect electronic equipment, wooden furniture and even wall insulation. A place that is constantly moist is a breeding ground for molds and bacteria, which pose plenty of health risks. When there is low humidity indoors, the dry atmosphere can cause static electricity and damage electronic devices. It can also cause a host of respiratory problems.
Many people use humidifiers in their homes and work spaces, and now more and more people are installing car humidifiers. A car humidifier, a more portable version of tabletop humidifiers, can offset dry air from the air conditioning system. Since a humidifier needs energy to run, a car humidifier is plugged into a vehicle’s cigarette lighter using its adapter. The water reservoir is filled with water, just like how it is done with other kinds of humidifiers, and steamy mist is released when the car humidifier is switched on. Travel humidifiers usually have indicators that light up when the water needs to be changed.
Warm mist and cool mist car humidifiers are available, just as there are warm air and cool air humidifiers for homes and offices. The four main types of humidifiers based on the kind of technology used are the steam or vaporizer, impeller, ultrasonic and evaporative. The steam humidifier uses a lot of energy as it boils water to release steam. This process kills molds and bacteria and keeps the water clean. Impeller, ultrasonic and evaporative humidifiers run on less energy but should be cleaned regularly. Since these units do not boil the humidifier water, stagnant water stimulates the growth of molds and bacteria.
The beauty of car humidifiers is that these handy-dandy devices make long drives and long rides comfortable. They keep the air moist enough to prevent passengers from getting dry skin, skin allergies, sore throat, itchy eyes and chapped lips, which are effects of a dry atmosphere. They also prevent travelers from getting respiratory ailments. The respiratory system needs the right amount of moisture to combat bacteria and mold spores, and it becomes prone to attack in vehicles that have very low humidity. With car humidifiers, travelers can stay comfortable on the road.
