Allergy Sufferers: Why Buy a Personal Humidifier?
Got allergy? If you use an air purifier at home, you may think you no longer need a personal humidifier. But an air purifier and a humidifier are not the same thing. While it is an air purifier that is chiefly responsible for cleansing the air, a humidifier can also help improve your environment.
A personal humidifier is used at home to increase the moisture level in the atmosphere. In certain times of the year, especially in winter, dry air can have unpleasant effects on humans. The use of an artificial heating system only makes it worse. Low humidity can cause dryness in the skin, lips, eyes and throat as well as eye irritation, lethargy, sore throat and dehydration. A lack of moisture in the air is also known to ruin wooden furniture, house paint and other parts of your home. A personal humidifier can relieve you of all these pains.
An additional benefit of using a humidifier is it can lower your energy costs. Because moist air feels warmer than dry air, you will use a heater the less often.
A personal humidifier is good for people with sinus problems. The moisturized air keeps the nose in good condition and helps it expel germs.
There are all kinds of humidifiers, so it is easy to find one that suits your needs. A personal humidifier for use at home is small and portable. You can use it in any room in your house, just make sure that the humidifier is designed to cover a room of that size. Also, you should replace your humidifier filters often. Do not allow moisture to build up in the room. If you see water condensation in the windows or glasses, it means the air is already saturated with water and you need to turn off (and empty) your personal humidifier.
Humidifiers work in different ways. All of them bring moisture to the air you breathe. An ultrasonic humidifier uses high-frequency waves to hatter water into tiny droplets. An impeller uses a spinning disc. A steam vaporizer boils water and gives off steam (just like a kettle – good for avoiding bacterial growth). A warm mist humidifier cools the steam after boiling. A cool mist humidifier does not boil water, but merely sprays it into the room.
There is a lot of talk about which is better to use, warm mist or cool mist or steam? So far as humidifying the room is concerned, they are the same. But cool mist humidifiers are apt to be noisier and more conductive to mold and bacterial growth, albeit they are easier to clean. We recommend you use a unit that boils water if you are conscious of germs, but be careful of using it in a children’s room.
