Choosing the Best Humidifier

Posted on December 18th, 2008 in Information by Humidifier Guide

The best humidifier, like anything, is the one that serves your purposes the best. Due to the nature of humidifiers, this also takes into account the reason that you want or need a humidifier in the first place and even the general weather and temperature in your area. Your doctor or physician should be the one to suggest these to you, but in case you just want to get a humidifier for yourself, her are a few consideration to make to make sure that you get the best humidifier for you.

First off, you need to decide which kind of humidifier you want. While all humidifiers serve the same purpose, that is to increase the moisture or water level present in the air, different machines use different methods of doing so. The evaporative or most basic of humidifiers is the one you’ll probably find for cheap and everywhere as well. These consist of three simple parts – the wick, the fan and the reservoir. They each work in tandem to evaporate the water that the wick absorbs. It also controls itself, as once the humidity reaches a certain point the wick ceases to evaporate water. This alone may make it the best humidifier for some, as you can pretty much leave it alone save for maintenance and the like.

Vaporizers and Cool Mist Humidifiers are among the most common humidifiers as well. The vaporizer does exactly that – it boils the water placed in it to create a fine steam that is usually pleasurable to the skin. This also sterilizes and essentially assures people that the steam is safe to breathe, as the water is boiled. Cool Mist humidifiers are much the safe, except that they do not boil the water, choosing instead to create a fine mist to distribute around the room. Both are relatively simple to operate, though the vaporizer tends to run more quietly and require more maintenance costs, as it needs more electricity. Both require constant maintenance, but correct usage can easily make this the best humidifier for the person who wants to get over their allergies in a certain area. The weather or overall temperature in your area will also help you make the decision, as you should buy the opposing humidifier for your area. For example, if you are in a cold area, buy the humidifier and vice versa.

These are only the basics of choosing the best humidifier for you. As always, check with your doctor as they may give you a better idea of what you need or want.
