Of course, you can always choose for a portable humidifier. Either way, your humidifier can protect your home from all kinds of damages brought about by dry air. By installing a humidifier, you would be able to feel warm without lowering the air moisture. Humidifiers that are attached to furnaces are referred to as bypass humidifiers.

How Bypass Humidifiers Work

Bypass humidifiers are called as such because they are attached to your home heat and cold air ducts. These humidifiers use the ducts’ pressure in order to create a bypass for the heated air. The air will go through the humidifier and return to your home’s furnace. Bypass humidifiers do not really contain moving parts except for their water valve. This is why they require extra ducts installed so that they would be able to suck in air which they will then pass through the humidifier and back into the house’s atmosphere. It is not advisable, however, to use these humidifiers during the summer.

Kinds of Bypass Humidifiers

There are actually three kinds of bypass humidifiers. These are the drum style, disc wheel style and flow through style. There are advantages and disadvantages to using any of these three kinds of bypass humidifiers. If you are on a tight budget and you don’t want an expensive humidifier, you should opt for the drum style. This is also cheaper to maintain. Unfortunately, you will be required to frequently clean and check on the pad in order to ensure the functionality and efficiency of your humidifier. Another disadvantage is that this kind of humidifier tends to encourage mold growth.

Similar to the drum style, the disc wheel style has its own set of benefits and drawbacks. It requires low maintenance cost as well. You don’t have to regularly replace parts. It is also efficient and it offers a longer life span. Unfortunately, this costs a bit more than a drum style humidifier.

The flow through style does not require extensive maintenance. You wouldn’t have to worry about mold growth as well. You don’t have to regularly changed filters and it does not consume energy or electricity. The drawback, however, is that it cots a lot more than the other kinds of bypass humidifiers.

If you would like to set up a whole house humidifier, you can get bypass humidifiers. You can attach this type of humidifier to your furnace. There are three basic kinds of bypass humidifiers. It is up to you to make your choice depending on your needs, requirement and preferences.
