The Humidifier for You and Your Home
Humidifiers come in many shapes and sizes, from the Ulltrasonic Humidifier to the Vaporizer. Often, your physician will suggest the most common kind of humidifier, the cool mist humidifier, to alleviate your breathing and make it more pleasant over all. Of course, you may have never heard of it before now, or even humidifiers in general. This is a quick guide to humidifiers and specifically, the cool mist humidifier.
Humidifiers in general, do exactly what their name suggests – they change the amount of water in the air, usually by increasing it. Some humidifiers are more advanced or more in tune than others in that they can also self-regulate and stop working when the amount of moisture in the air is approximately correct. A cool mist humidifier can change the moisture in an entire house, while a vaporizer can even be portable for all your breathing needs. Some can even have medicine mixed in to create a sort of healing mist and each kind has its own benefits and disadvantages. In fact, there has been a constant debate over which is better – a cool mist humidifier or a warm mist humidifier, also known as a vaporizer.
Most people tend to suggest the cool mist humidifier for a number of reasons. While the vaporizer, due to its need to boil the water, ends up creating a sterile cloud, it also requires more maintenance and upkeep due to the electricity needed and is just as likely to breed mosquitoes and germs if left unattended and unused with stagnant water. A cool mist humidifier just creates a fine and refreshing mist for the user and while there is some concern over potential micro organisms being cast into the air, it’s an issue that can easily be solved by putting in distilled water water or boiled water.
Steam vaporizers can potentially cause burns while a well maintained cool mist humidifier is completely safe. Often, the only complaint received with regards to a cool mist humidifier is that it can create a noticeable operating noise – that is also rapidly improving, as more advanced versions of the cool mist humidifier can run silently.
What it really comes down to is what you need it for. Your physician or doctor should be able to point you towards the right model or right kind of humidifier to completely suit your needs. After that, it’s a matter of proper selection and finding the right price range for you.
